Jack G Reporting for Springston School

This is what I,  Jack, did at writing today.

It is about pet day that was the 7th of oct 2012. Its all about the lambs and my class think it's pretty funny. After I recorded this I went and wrote about Pet Day - you might see that on the blog pretty soon too!

I hope you enjoy it. Many thanks, Jack.

Peel Forest Camp

Last week we spent some time reflecting on our camp. We thought about things we really enjoyed, times we were nervous about and things we'd never forget.

We made posters to show our thoughts. Click on our ebook below to see our posters. This only has half our posters - the other half will be coming soon! You can also find these on our classroom wall if you would like a closer look.

Wow who saw that amazing electrical storm last night?! You didn't?! Check out this photo by our very own Miss Alice...

Didn't she do a great job snapping this photo just as the lightning struck?

Inspired by the storm we made some acrostic poems during writing time, check them out below.

Rain Haikus

Inspired by the rainy day today we tried our hand at writing Haikus.

A Haiku is an Ancient Japanese poem that is made up of 3 lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables and the final line goes back to 3 syllables.

Let us know what you think of our Haiku's.

The Olympic Creed

I was just checking out the insandouts blog and they had a post about The Olympic Creed. Do you know the Olympic Creed is? Well here it is:

"The most important thing is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well"

The insandouts thought the video below was a fantastic example of the Olympic Creed and we have to agree!

Hoani and Molly's "Showing Not Telling"

By Molly

By Hoani

Show Not Tell!

This week during writing time we have been working on giving our readers clues rather then telling them exactly what is happening.

We read "Beans" by Patricia Grace which has a part about a boy playing hard during his rugby game. We thought about a time when we have played hard. We did lots of visualising to help us remember this time and then we wrote about it.

We still have a bit to work on but here are some of our first attempts at showing rather than telling our readers what is happening.

Movie Making - Genre Continued

Here are two other movie previews we watched yesterday. What genre would these be?

Movie Making - Genre

Yesterday we started our new Movie Making unit. We got into our filming groups and we talked about how there are different genres of movies. We watched some movie previews and tried to come up with the best fit genre for them.

Here is one of the previews we watched. What genre do you think it is?

Exciting News!

Hello Room 9!

I have exciting news that I couldn't wait until the start of term to tell you - I have to tell you now!!

We are so lucky! We are getting some iPads for Term 3!

I know I can't wait to use them! Can you think of some educational and creative ways we could use them in our classroom? Leave me a comment if you think of something!

The Importance of Working as a Team!

On Friday we talked about how important is it to work as a team (especially when you've got a lot of people in a small space!).
I found this video on Russley Room 7's blog and we thought it summed it up pretty well!
(Well done to "Techofes" too for creating this!)

William's Wordle

For home-learning this week William did a Wordle on fireworks. I really like how he has made some words bigger than others. I think this is very effective.

Visual Language Posters

This term we have been working hard on visual language. We have been looking at the elements of layout, font, handwriting, borders and colour. To showcase all the skills we have learnt this term we have created posters of Kenn Nesbitt's poem "My Teacher Ate My Homework". Below are 5 posters, keep an eye on the blog for even more!
